About Counselling

Counselling or Psychotherapy

There may be times in your life when you feel there is no solution to the problem you are facing. However this is not the experience of the Counsellors at Equilibrium who have helped many people find answers and effective ways of coping with their difficulties.

You may be suffering from panic attacks or other alarming symptoms caused by stress.
You may lack confidence, feel anxious and generally unable to cope.
Work may be getting on top of you.
You may have difficulties, either emotional or sexual in relating to other people.
You may worry about your health for example, relying on alcohol, smoking to much, using drugs.
You may feel devastated by the death of a relative or friend.
You may not have a problem at all but you may want to have Counselling/Psychotherapy to find out more about yourself and perhaps achieve personal growth.
You and your partner are just not getting on.

Our Standards
Counselling at Equilibrium is strictly confidential. Our Psychotherapists/Counsellors have completed two to four year training in Counselling. Often they have background qualifications in Psychology. In addition they receive clinical supervision and personal therapy, complying with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy [BACP] Code of Ethics.

We have Male, Female, Black and White Counsellors

All the Counsellors at this centre are qualified and experienced in helping a variety of problems.

We have a number of differing skills and theoretical approaches. However, our common belief is in your potential to understand and gain insight into your difficulties through exploration.

If you are unsure whether Counselling is for you or not, book a confidential assessment with a counsellor who will advise you of your best way forward.

LOW COST Counselling is available for people of limited means. The Centre uses its close contact with Training Courses to provide these clients with Counsellors-in-training. These counsellors have at least one years training, some much more. They are members of the counsellors professional body, follow BACP code of ethics, and are carefully interviewed before being allowed to work in the Centre. Clients may self-refer.

How We Work
One-to-One
Through open dialogue with the client each Counsellor/Psychotherapist's method of interacting reflects his or her training. Our counsellors are skilled at listening in a non-judgemental way, and in helping you to explore those areas of your life that may be causing you pain. Counselling enables you through exploration to make sense of how and who you are, and may sometimes lead to personal change.

Couples
If your problem is a marital or relationship one, it helps if both of you tackle things together. When both parties agree to it, Counselling for couples is ideal because it gives impartial and safe atmosphere where feelings can be openly expressed and heard. We welcome both gay and heterosexual couples.

Equality
Equilibrium does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of age, marital status, physical disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, social origins, political or religious beliefs.

Sessions
Our sessions last for 50 minutes; usually you will have at least one session per week.

You will meet your therapist at our comfortable Counselling room at 88 Pulborough Road, Southfields, Wandsworth.

There is no time limit on the duration of the therapy, it may last for a matter of weeks or for a year or more and this will be negotiated between the client and the therapist.
