Gretta McBride

Individual & Couple Counsellor

UPDATE COVID 19: ONLINE/REMOTE COUNSELLING is available through Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, Telephone or any preferred method suitable for both.

With nearly 20 years experience as a counsellor and couples therapist in both long and short term work, I have experience with a broad spectrum of client issues, ages, sexual orientations, ethnicities and cultures. As well as Equilibrium and private practice I have worked in the NHS, the Charity sector and in the Psychotherapy and Counselling Department at the University of Surrey I also have 12 years experience as a Person Centered Counselling Supervisor.

I offer a confidential counselling service to individuals and couples. My aim is to support you to explore whatever concerns you would like to talk about, that may help you understand and come to terms with feelings, thoughts and behaviours that are causing you difficulties. My aim is to help you find ways of coping at times of distress or by supporting you while you are exploring decisions or making changes in your life.

I believe and it also has been my experience that each individual has the resources within themselves for self understanding and self determination. When they are listened to, trusted without fear of judgement, they are able to explore their difficulties at their own pace and depth, this reduces confusion which leads naturally to change and discovering ways of living life more resourcefully. It is always my endeavour to offer an environment to make this possible. Some of the issues that I have experience counselling include: Abuse
Eating problmes,
Identity problems,
Low self esteem,
Relationship difficulties,
Sexual problems,
Work related problemS.

In the course of a relationship many couples come under pressure for myriad reasons They experience life changes and difficult decisions. some of these difficulties may be: Growing apart, money, career related concerns, age, children, sexual difficulties, affairs. Couples therapy enables both partners to explore their problems in a non judgemental environment. My task, without my emotional investment in your choices is to help you clarify your difficulties, with a view to a greater clarity and understanding of yourself, your partner and your relationship in a way that can lead to resolution.

I offer Person Centered Supervision to both Qualified and Trainee counsellors/Psychotherapists. I consider the 6 necessary and sufficient conditions for therapeutic change to apply in supervision as I do with counselling. I view our work as a collaborative exploration of your work with your clients, focusing on your process as well as your clients process.
